About This Show

AI-drafted summary

The ACPOC Annual Meeting is the yearly gathering of the Association of Children's Prosthetic-Orthotic Clinics (ACPOC), a nonprofit, interdisciplinary organization dedicated to the care of children with limb deficiencies, orthopaedic conditions, and neuromuscular needs. The 2027 meeting takes place April 7–10, 2027 at the Amway Grand Plaza in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and features three days of educational sessions.

The meeting is described as the only major association event focused specifically on the care of pediatric limb deficiency and other orthopaedic disabilities. It draws hundreds of professionals — physicians, occupational and physical therapists, nurses, orthotists, prosthetists, social workers, and researchers — from the US, Canada, and around the world.

Attendees come for peer-reviewed scientific and technical workshops, marquee lectureships, networking with industry partners, and continuing-education (CE) credit. With one of the highest concentrations of clinicians specializing in children's neurological and musculoskeletal conditions, ACPOC offers a uniquely collaborative, team-based setting for advancing pediatric prosthetic and orthotic care.

Show Highlights

The 2027 program centers on interdisciplinary education in pediatric musculoskeletal care, spanning prostheses, orthoses, physical and occupational therapy, seating and mobility, motion analysis, surgical interventions, and more.

Featured speakers include:

  • Hector Kay Lecturer: James O. Sanders, MD — Frank C. Wilson Distinguished Professor and Chair of Orthopaedics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, known for his research in pediatric spinal deformity and skeletal maturity staging.
  • Presidential Lecturer: Jessica Cox — an internationally recognized motivational speaker, pilot, and author born without arms, who has spoken across 28 countries to audiences up to 40,000.

Signature elements include the scientific abstract sessions, exhibitor Technical Workshops (where industry partners present devices and techniques), a Welcome Reception with exhibitors, and a Friday Night Social.

According to ACPOC's association profile, the organization has 300+ members across hospital, academic, industry, private practice, specialty hospital, and children's health system settings. History

ACPOC traces its roots to 1946, when Dr. Carlton Dean, Dr. Charles H. Frantz, and Dr. George T. Aitken organized a Juvenile Amputee Program in Michigan to better fit and treat child amputees. A pivotal meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan in January 1954 launched a national juvenile amputee management effort, leading to a committee on child prosthetic problems that first met in 1956.

Annual meetings hosted by member clinics began in 1972. After the parent committee was disbanded in 1976, clinic chiefs voted at the 1978 Grand Rapids meeting to form a free-standing organization. Officers were elected at the 1979 Memphis meeting, and the by-laws were approved in 1980 in New Jersey, formally establishing the present Association of Children's Prosthetic-Orthotic Clinics (founded 1980). Today ACPOC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit headquartered in Fennville, MI, and an international organization that meets annually in a member clinic's host city in the US or Canada.
