IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference & Expo - APEC 2027

Registration for APEC 2027 launches October 19, 2026, with rates payable in US dollars and by credit card. Early bird registration closes January 25, 2027.

Registration categories include:

• Full Conference Pass — access to all sessions, seminars, plenary, exposition, debate sessions, exhibitor presentations, and the Wednesday Night Social Event. IEEE/PSMA member early bird $975; regular $1,150. Non-member early bird $1,150; regular $1,325. Student or IEEE Life Member rate $475.
• Technical and Industry Sessions Pass — member early bird $750; regular $850. Non-member early bird $850; regular $950. Student/Life Member $375.
• Professional Education Seminars Only Pass — member early bird $550; regular $625. Non-member early bird $625; regular $700. Student/Life Member $300.
• General Attendee Pass (formerly Exposition Hall Only) — early bird $50, regular $75, on-site $100.
• Press Pass — complimentary early bird (valid credentials required), $75 regular, $100 on-site.
• Spouse and Guest Pass, Future Professional Pass (guests under 18), and Student Job Fair Only Pass — complimentary with conditions.

Member rates require a current IEEE membership or PSMA member-company employment valid on March 7, 2027. Cancellations in writing on or before February 11, 2027 receive a full refund less a $75 processing fee; no refunds after that date, though substitutions are allowed.

APEC traces its roots to the early 1980s North American power electronics scene, which was served by the IEEE-sponsored Power Electronics Specialists Conference (PESC) and Powercon, organized by Power Concepts, Inc. When Powercon was discontinued after its successful 1984 Dallas edition, the industry was left without a conference focused on the working engineer. In late 1985 the IEEE Power Electronics Council created APEC to fill that gap, and the first APEC was held April 28 - May 1, 1986 at the Fairmont Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) joined as a sponsor in 1990, and the Power Sources Manufacturers Association (PSMA) joined in 1991 — an unusual pairing of IEEE and non-IEEE sponsors that has driven APEC's growth. Early organizers established a consistent format built on technical sessions with archival proceedings, a tutorial program (now the Professional Education Seminars), and an exposition, and hired professional conference management to ensure quality year to year. APEC is always held in continental North America, generally rotating among West coast, central US, and East coast locations, and is held in late winter or early spring. First held 40 years ago, APEC has grown to be the leading conference in North America for power electronics professionals.
