The conference is organized by the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists (ADCES), which was founded in 1973 as the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE). In January 2020, the organization rebranded to its current name to better reflect the specialty title of diabetes care and education specialists. The 2020 annual conference (ADCES20) was held virtually and was the first under the ADCES name. In 2023, the association celebrated its 50th anniversary. The annual conference rotates among U.S. cities each year — recent editions include Baltimore in 2022 — and comes to the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio, for 2026.
