Ocean Sciences Meeting - OSM 2028

The first Ocean Sciences Meeting was held in February 1982 in San Antonio, Texas, with 700 attendees, and it has been held biennially for 40 years, growing to over 6,000 attendees. Almost 6,000 attendees gathered for the 2024 Ocean Sciences Meeting. The 2026 meeting in Glasgow, the first to take place in Europe, was the largest gathering to date, with 6,500 attendees representing 88 different countries and nearly 2,500 presentations in 17 session rooms, with roughly two-thirds of participants traveling from outside the U.S. The audience spans scientists, students, educators, policymakers, journalists, and industry professionals from across the global ocean-sciences community.

Registration for the Ocean Sciences Meeting is handled through the official AGU OSM website. Attendance is open to all members of the ocean sciences community. For the 2026 cycle, registration and housing opened in mid-June 2025, so prospective 2028 attendees should watch the official site for the equivalent opening dates and abstract-submission deadlines. Registrants presenting research must submit abstracts through the meeting's abstract management system. The first author can print a letter of invitation for themselves or any co-author through the abstract management system User Portal by selecting "Roles in Meeting," followed by "Letter of Invitation."
